It’s that time of year: the 2015 is around the corner and resolutions are on the brain, right? Well, I’ve decided to do a different kind of resolution this New Year's, and it’s an important one that I'd encourage everyone to try out:
This year I resolve to love myself.
That’s it. It’s that simple and that hard. I resolve to love myself. 2014 was the year when I was first introduced to some of the concepts I’ll be exploring in more depth in 2015. I’ve read a lot this year, and I’ve journaled a lot, and I’ve had rather Oprah-esqe “a-ha! moments” a lot, too. What it comes down to is this: I am a flawed person. We all are. But this flawed person deserves her own love, and this year I’m going on a mission to earn it, enthusiastically and unconditionally.
I will pursue my passions; I will pursue my inner bad ass; I will pursue my health and vitality; I will pursue my peace of mind. Step by step I will continue on the path towards the life I truly want for myself: a life full of self-love and self-discovery. It’s a big task, one that will be fraught with inevitable challenges and slips, but I’m up for it. As Paulo Coehlo wrote in The Alchemist (read it, seriously), “When a person really desires something, the universe conspires to help that person to achieve his dreams.” Well, I’m dreaming of a life full of compassion, and peace, and awesome. So much awesome. I believe that if we take steps every day towards our truth, the people, opportunities, and lessons we need will be put on our path to help us get there. And if we stumble? No problem! The universe will pick us up and place us back on our path. Sounds glorious, eh? And I think it is! However, this kind of pursuit takes focused effort… you know, the daily kind. It’s a challenge, for sure, but I’ve already experienced some of the benefits first-hand, so I know it’s worth it (besides, it’s not like we’re selling ice in the Arctic, right? I mean, there’s hard, and there’s hard). “Take the step, and the bridge will be there”, Grace Cirocco famously wrote. This New Year’s I resolve to take the necessary steps in my own life, with the daily, intentional purpose of loving myself lighting my way.
2015 will be the year when I apply the knowledge I’ve gained (while always stretching to acquire more, of course). It’s time to stop reading, and start doing. And if you’re interested in going on a similar journey, I’d love it if you’d join me. No shame, just love. All year. Let’s do it.
All my best,
Katelyn
